Advocate Defined:
Advocacy
is the act of arguing on behalf of a particular issue, idea or person.
Individuals, organizations, businesses, churches and governments (for example at the
level of the United Nations) can engage in advocacy. An example of advocating
for a particular issue is attempting to persuade others of the importance of
implementing UN Security Council 1325, on gender and peace building.
Advocating for an idea can
include a wide range of subjects as broad as social justice. For example,
someone can engage in environmental advocacy, which can include writing letters
to the editor, contacting political representatives, organizing community
meetings, distributing public education materials, participating in a public
protest, or other means to communicate one's views for the purpose of policy and
social change. An example of advocacy on behalf of a person includes
international campaigns to release Aung San Suu Kyi, the democratically elected
leader of Burma/Myanmar, from house arrest.
TKOH is an advocate of human
rights, dignity, equality and justice, not only in the US, but has links and some influence in more than 70
countries. We work to bring peace, equality and freedom, which brings respect
for ones self and respect for others. We work to end starvation, homelessness
and peace as we are all connected.
Human rights are about equality and freedom and when
there is equality and freedom it bring respect for ones self and with that
respect for others. True peace can only come with equality.
The greater the distance between those that have and
those that do not have, the less peace there is or can be!
One solution of course is to take from the rich and give
to the poor!
The other solution is to help those in need bring their
quality of life up and that is what all of TKOH works to accomplish.
Your Part in Advocacy: Human
Rights
Each
of us has an opportunity to either be a part of the solution or be a part of the
problem. Each one of us can do simple things in an effort to be an advocate to
help others and help end needless suffering.
Each of us can do the following:
1) Each of us has the ability to
be a trustworthy friend.
2) Each of us can be a good
listener.
3) Each of us can respect those
we are dealing with and helping and respect the decisions that they make,
whether we may or may not agree.
4) Each of us can for a moment
focus on the person we are attempting to help and not be distracted by our own
problems.
5) Each of us can stay calm and
be a light that brings people to a better place and help bring them to a better
path.
6) Each of us can work together
to really bring resolve to problems that we cannot deal with on our own.
7) Each of us can vote on
important issues on the TKOH Forums and let our opinions known.
8) For the most part each of us
can donate at least $1 per month to help bring effective change.
9) Each of can learn that there
is little we can do on our own, but as a group can bring influence and through
group advocacy can bring long lasting and effect change and become part of the
solution. Become a TKOH Advocate and help be a part of the solution. Enrollment
